Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to contact the teacher?
It is easiest to reach me via email. I check these daily.

(typically before school, after school and midday when possible)
Please do not email transportation changes to me...these should
be sent to the office in writing. My
email address is:
angela.hicks@cobbk12.org

How will my child use the agenda?
All homework for the week will be copied by your
child into his/her
agenda each Monday morning.
Parents should check each night to see that the
homework
has been completed correctly. Parents
should also sign their child's agenda each night.

Every Monday a set of weekly phonics words
will be stapled into your child's
agenda- these should
not be removed. They will be
used all week at school
and at
home. In order to keep you well informed,
a
ny behavioral or work study habit concerns will be
recorded in the agenda by your child's teacher on a
daily basis.  If there were no concerns, a blue or green
stamp will be found in the agenda for that day.

Any important notes to or from school should be
placed in the clear pocket at the front of your child's
agenda binder. Please make sure that your child is
aware of any notes you place there so he/she can
deliver them to the teacher first thing in the morning.

What is the "weekly folder"?
This is a folder that will come home with your child
once a week. The folder will contain many important
items including your child's weekly behavior

report, class newsletter, graded papers and other

important forms. You should read through all information

in this folder, then remove the   paperwork, sign your

child's weekly behavior report,
and return it to school the next
morning.

What if my child is going home a
different way than usual?

All transportation changes must be submitted in
writing prior to 2:00 on the day of the change. For
your convenience, a transportation change form is
provided on this site under "Transportation Change Form".
If the change occurs during the school day you
must drop off or fax in a written and signed notice to the
front office.

Can I do something special on my
child's birthday?

Birthdays are extra special days and deserve to be
recognized. However, in order to protect classroom
instructional time, I
ask that they be recognized by
bringing in a special treat
during lunch. Treats can
be cookies,
cake, cupcakes, etc. Please make sure to
bring
enough for the entire castle.

What if my child is absent?
I realize that absences are unavoidable. In order
to prevent your child from getting behind on classwork
due to an absence, work that needs to be made up will

come home on the day your child returns to school.
Your child should complete and return this by the date
noted.
Also, please remember that all absences should
be documented with an excuse note from home.
All excuse notes must be submitted within 48 hours
of the absence telling the school the reason for
your child's absence.

How can I help my child with the
weekly phonics words?

Nightly practice and review of the phonics words
and rule will benefit your child greatly. To help you
think of interesting ways to practice these words,
I have created 9 Spelling Contracts with lots of ideas
for you to use.
These contracts provide fun hands-on
ways for your child to practice his/her
words. Occasionally,
these contracts will be listed as required homework in your

child's agenda and a hard copy will come home. However,
if they are not listed in the agenda, simply use them as an
extra
resource rather than as mandatory homework.
Again...they are not required unless
noted in the agenda
and sent home with your child.

What is the policy on work turned in late?
Every child in the castle is expected to turn in all homework,
class work and extra credit work (such as Dragon
Challenges)

on time. Any homework or class work that is
turned in late, or not at all,
will result in a classroom
consequence and a mark in
their weekly folder.
There is not a class consequence or negative mark
in a child's weekly folder for late Dragon Challenge activities
since the Dragon Challenges are part of an
extra
credit program in The Castle.

Where can I find a class schedule?
A copy of our daily schedule can be found on this site under
"Daily Schedule".

Should my child bring a snack daily?
Yes! I will provide a snack time every day. Please send in healthy
snacks rather than candy or junk food. Your child may also bring a
water bottle. I ask for water only though to avoid attracting ants.
Class snacks will not be provided, so be sure to pack a snack daily!
