Spelling Practice

Is your child looking for a new way to practice their spelling words? Today we learned (or reintroduced to some) a website to practice their words on the computer. Feel free to use this at home as an extra tool to practice. Just click the link below to visit Spelling City at

When your child visits the site, they need to type in their spelling words. Once that is done, they can choose what they would like to do next. If they click Teach, the computer will review all of their spelling words by saying them and spelling them letter by letter. If they click on Test, the computer will verbally ask your child all of their spelling words and your child types in their spelling words one by one. Finally, if they click on Games, your child can play 9 different games containing their individualized spelling words. There are games like Match It!, Alphabetize, Unscramble, Missing Letter, and Hang Mouse.

We are currently studying matter in science. The children have loved learning about the 3 states of matter, how the particles in each look different and looking at some fascinating websites. Study Island

Study Island is here! Your child has received their username and password for Study Island. This is a web-based program that is standards based and allows him/her to practice skills that are similar to those that will be included on the CRCT. Your child is welcome to access the site from home and challange themselves with many different educational games. To learn more, click the sites below and explore.

First in Math

This Wednesday we will start a math challenge at Pickett's Mill Elementary. Your child will come home with an information letter and password. Check out the website and have some fun with your child at home. We are in competition with the other 2nd grade classes for top points. Plus, a 4th grade class has challenged us as well (last year we outscored this class, and they think we can't do it again- the Lords and Ladies think otherwise!!). I know we can do it!!!
