WOW! I can't believe it is already the end of October! Time sure flies when you are busy and having fun! This week we had fun celebrating Red Ribbon Week and Glow Day in PE! We practiced retelling stories in sequential order using the words first, next, then and last. This is a great skill to practice at home after reading a story. This will build comprehension skills which are a key part of reading. We have also been learning about Veteran's Day, the Statue of Liberty and the Bald Eagle in social studies and gravity in science. In math we are working with numbers to 20 and three dimensional shapes. Ask your child to identify objects that are in the shape of a sphere or a cube. In writer's workshop we are adding details to our ideas in order to stretch our thinking and write more.
Thank you to all who helped with our Fall Fun learning center activites! It takes everyone to make these events a success. So thank you if you sent something in or came in to help!! We appreciate you!
Next week's curriculum focus:
Language Arts: Making Connections
Skills: When books/characters remind us of people or experiences in our own lives or other stories, then we are making a connection. Please have students verbalize the connections they make with stories.
Continue to practice counting syllables in words by clapping how many syllables we hear in words called out.
Sight Words: said, for, three
Writer’s Workshop: Practice writing a sentence using correctly spelled sight words, phonetic spelling, spacing, capitalization and punctuation. Practice stretching our idea with more details.
Math: Identifying and matching numerals to sets for numbers 11-20; counting sets to 20; penny, nickel, dime and their values; fair trades with pennies and nickels and pennies and dimes; creating and extending patterns and identifying the missing piece in a pattern
Social Studies: Veteran’s Day; Statue of Liberty; Bald Eagle
*If you know a veteran please fill out a "Wall of Honor" plaque and send it back to school so we can make sure it is displayed on our Pickett's Mill wall of honor!!
