Must Ministries Collection
The entire 2nd grade at Pickett's Mill is sponsoring a November & December outer wear collection for MUST Ministries as part of our leadership activities. Please feel free to send in gently used coats, mittens, hats or blankets to help others in need.
Nutcracker, Here we Come!
What a better way to start the festive month of December than by going to see The Nutcracker Ballet. We will be going on Friday, December 2nd as soon as we return from the Thanksgiving break. This is a Performing Arts Field Trip that allows all of the second graders in Cobb County the opportunity to experience the art of ballet. Because this is a county field trip, and there are so many 2nd graders that will experience the ballet, there will be no chaperones allowed except for the classroom teachers. If at all possible, please have your child dress in theater appropriate attire. Not only do we want to show respect for the arts, but also want to represent Pickett's Mill like leaders.

To all the Residents of Whoville and their relatives,
I wanted to thank you so much for the amazing get well cards, Thanksgiving cards and the delicious Edible Arrangement. I already have the cards hung above the arches in my family room and they make me smile every time I look at them. The arrangement is almost too pretty to eat, but I want to make sure the fruit doesn't spoil before my family can enjoy it. I guess I will have to break down and disassemble it soon. In the mean time, I am busy recovering and can't wait to see all my Whos. Thank you for everything!

Market Day is Coming!
Market Day is on December 9th! You can click on the link below to view the flyer that discribes the activity. As always, your support is wonderful, but please let your child create their product.
The more they do, the more they learn.
Chick-fil-A Night Information
Below are some directions for Chick-fil-A night:
You must put your receipt, with your student(s)' name(s) written on the back, into one of the RED CUPS at the registers. This is how Chick-fil-A tracks our orders for the night, and the total from the receipts is used in figuring out how much money Pickett's Mill gets back from the night.
There will also be sign-in sheets for you to put students' names and teachers' names on for the classroom participation contest, but this is separate from the receipts. The receipts must be placed in the RED CUPS for our school to get credit for the sales.
A Few Changes this Week
I'm sure you have found out by now through either reading the newsletter last week or by listening your child . . . I will be out of the classroom from Nov. 15th to Nov. 18th for surgery. However, I will be raring to go right after Thanksgiving break. In the meantime, this week is going to be a little conventional. So here are some of the changes listed below:
1. There won't be a spelling test this week. I think everyone needs a break!
2. You won't be receiving a Thursday Folder this week, because I won't be there to observe the children's behavior.
3. The Razz Bags are going to get reorganized and will make a reappearance after the break.
4. The Cat in the Hat has decided to go home for the holidays, so he won't be visiting a Who over the break.
5. The Estimation Jar is going to estimate how long we will be gone over break, and will remain in the classroom to do so.
6. The newsletter will appear in little blurbs on the Blog, instead of a paper format this week, so keep checking back.

Dress for Success at Pickett’s Mill Elementary
What is Dress for Success?
Dress for Success is when students, teachers, and staff in a school dress up for a school day. They wear clothing that is clean, neat, and appropriate for school. The clothing is nicer than the average day clothes, because we will be showcasing our leadership skills to about 20 educators.

Why do I Dress for Success?
When we dress for success we are able to show visitors even more of our leadership skills. This shows that students and staff are working towards our mission at Pickett’s Mill Elementary and becoming a Lighthouse School.
