Where is the year going? Seems like we were just walking in the door all wide eyed and excited! I know it is Superbowl weekend, but it feels like the game is on in our room! Lately, I have seen some students put on their game face and produce OUTSTANDING work! I have been so pleased with students that are producing quality work. Look out second grade we are getting ready!
Ms. Vaccarelli has been stepping in and we have done a lot of coteaching and planning for success. We have had many small groups and fun stations to enhance our learning. In math, we are learning to tell time to the hour and half hour. Our phonics this nine weeks focuses on long vowels. Last week we worked with long i and the i_e pattern. Reading was all about fact and opinion! We had fun sorting facts and opinions and finding them in our reading. We continue to use our strategies when indepently reading. We enjoyed learning all about light and shadows last week in Science. It tied in perfectly with Groundhog day! We had fun predicting and making some groundhog crafts. Our informational writing is coming together in our All About Frogs books. We are learning how to organize our books and use the nonficiton text features. We hope to wrap them up this coming week and begin our own "expert" books.
I want to thank everyone for the wonderful birthday surprises on Monday! I LOVED all the great cards and my special lunch. Thanks for making my day so special!
Need a great Valentine gift idea? Many of us are beginning to read chapter books or harder texts. There are some great challenging and fun books at the Scholastic website. Everytime you make an order, we get free books for our classroom. We are always trying to get more books and CD's for our listening center.
