It's fall y'all! Apples, pumpkins and leaves are on my mind! I love the fall season. I hope to make it a fun and learning time in our classroom. We had such a great week last week. There is a bunch to tell you all so keep reading, so you don't miss out on any important news:
Here is what our busy week looked like:
We started the week with a fabulous puppet show performance called, Give Peas A Chance. We learned all about nutrition and really got us talking about just how healthy are our snacks. Remember, we eat snack at 9:00 in the morning. Sweets are not allowed. Try to pack healthy choices and nonmessy snacks. If you want to send in some back up snacks for those forgetful days, we would really appreciate it!
Math: We continued with our subtraction unit and breaking apart numbers. We are really trying hard to learn our facts to ten in addition and subtraction. Our goal is to be fluent in these facts.
Phonics/Grammar: What fun we had last week with short e. On Wednesday, we had our Read with Buc visitor from Allatoona. We had Morgan Nesbitt, a softball player. She had fun playing short e in a cup! We had short e words all mixed up in a cup and we went around the room making words and recording them. We will continue to work on short e this week as well.
Reading: Would you like some story stew? We explored all the elements of a story that make it so wonderful. Like a recipe, every story has characters, settings, problems and solutions. We stirred up some yummy stories to read. Ask your child how their stamina is building in independent reading? INCREDIBLE!!!
Science: The science lab was rocking with Mrs. Schumacher's scientists last week. We continued our weather and water unit. We made RAIN! Yes, it was raining! We learned all about clouds, the water cycle and forms of precipitation.
Writing: How do writer's plan? We continued to learn how to use an organizer when writing. Last week, we also worked on how to share a piece of writing. So many students had the chance to share their piece and how to be an audience member.
Special Thanks to the following people who made our week so special:
Noah, Ansley, Natalie who sent in M&M's, Skittles and Candy Corn for our class.
Corey Strapp for the wonderful job on the class directory.
Erin Moore and Lauren Shelpman for our wonderful fall hallway display! I can't wait to fill it up with kids work.
Mr. Trujillo (Poppy) and Mr. O'Connor for being our Watch DOGS!
Everyone who helped with our "Surrender The Booty!" fundraiser. We went over our goal and raised over 14,000 dollars! How incredible!
Scholastic Book orders are due online by Sept. 28th. I will place the order on Sept. 29th. Thanks for the support for our classroom!
We go to the Library almost every Thursday. Please have your child put their books in their bookbag when they finish reading them.
If you are going to have a change of transportation, you must contact the office by phone or fax. I cannot take an email as a change. You can email me to let me know the change but the office has to have it documented.
Please label all money envelopes with your child's name, grade, my name and what it is for. If it is lunch money, ask your child for their student number to help the cafeteria process it quicker.
Needed: We need two empty two liter bottles for Science next week. Thanks!
October 5-7th, we will be taking the CogAT. Please make sure that your child has had a healthy breakfast and is on time to school.
October 7th will be picture retake day! Bring your smile.
October 13th Reflections entries due. Please consider entering something in this arts program. See PTA website for details and rules.
