    Math EQ:  How do decimals relate to fractions? How do I add and subtract decimals?  How do I figure out the area and perimeter of different objects?

    The children have quickly caught on to decimals. We'll have a quiz on Monday then begin to explore area and perimeter.

    fun brain football- decimals

    The students are going to need to be able to add and subtract basic decimals.

    0.8 - 0.2 =

    They are also going to have to be able to compare basic fractions to decimals.

    0.1 = 1/10

    0.5 = 5/10

    0.45 = 45/100

    0.75 = 75/100

    Reading EQ: How do I determine main ideas and details in nonfiction text?  How do headings help me do this?

    We will be integrating science and reading as we discuss how to locate the main idea and supporting details within nonfiction science texts.  Through leveled readers and smartboard activities we will explore this reading skill as we study animal and plant habitats.

    *An engaging beginning including a topic sentence

    *Details and related facts

    *Obvious organizational structure

    *Appropriate ‘VOICE’

    Pickett's Mill Science Fair Is Coming

    Science_Fair_clipart

    WOW!  Wasn't science night so much FUN!  There were cool hands-on experiments for all to do and I loved all the amazing AIR experiments.  So now it’s time to Be Proactive and Begin With the End in Mind as you start brainstorming some ideas.  We hope ALL our treasured third graders will enter Pickett’s Mill Science Fair.  Start thinking of a topic and a title this weekend.

    When:         February 22nd for K-2

                February 24th for 3-5

    Where:        Pickett's Mill Media Center

    How: Think of a title for your science project.  All titles must be phrased as a question. Here are a few examples:  Which kind of gum holds its flavor the longest? Is the 5 day weather forecast accurate? The question should then be answered by the experiment.  The internet is a great resource for science fair project ideas!

    More information will be coming home in your child's RED PTA folder next Tuesday.  Here are some links with great Science Fair ideas. Beware...these links take you outside of CCSD and may contain advertisements. Science Fair Ideas and More Science Fair Ideas
