Just a reminder to all students make sure to Dress For Success on Friday (we have PE so pack a pair of tennis shoes if you think you might not be able to bowl in your dress shoes) and bring your lunch from home if you were one of the students to make that choice. Curriculum Connection
Math EQ: How do decimals relate to fractions? How do I add and subtract decimals? How do I figure out the area and perimeter of different objects?
The children have quickly caught on to decimals. We'll have a quiz on Monday then begin to explore area and perimeter.

The students are going to need to be able to add and subtract basic decimals.
0.5 + 0.6 =

They are also going to have to be able to compare basic fractions to decimals.
0.1 = 1/10
0.5 = 5/10
0.45 = 45/100

Reading EQ: How do I determine main ideas and details in nonfiction text? How do headings help me do this?
We will be integrating science and reading as we discuss how to locate the main idea and supporting details within nonfiction science texts. Through leveled readers and smartboard activities we will explore this reading skill as we study animal and plant habitats.

We will begin working on our animal research on Monday. Our focus in writing will be using facts and information. The goal is to include the following in their informational writing:
*An engaging beginning including a topic sentence
*Details and related facts
*Obvious organizational structure
*Appropriate ‘VOICE’

Science EQ: How are the physical regions of Georgia different?
Standard: S3L1a Habitats of Georgia: Differentiate between habitats of (mountains, marsh/swamp, coast, Piedmont, Atlantic Ocean) and the organisms that live there.
We will continue to work on our Georgia habitats unit. We will study the wildlife, the regions and the terrain.

The 2012 Six Flags reading program has kicked off at PMES! Your child should have received the Parent Letter and Reading Log in Tuesdays RED PTA folder. All forms should be turned in to the Media Center NO LATER than Friday Feb. 24! Sadly, no late entries will be accepted.
