Writing EQ: What are the elements of persuasive writing? How do I use it to convince someone of my position? How do I write to persuade an audience?
We will begin our next writing unit on Tuesday. We will read several books such as Hey Little Ant, Earrings, I Wanna Iguana, and Dear Mrs. LaRue to help us learn about persuasive writing. Students will write their own response without help. They must be able to pre-write, write, revise, edit, and publish. This will be scored by the state writing rubric.
When You Write to Persuade…
Organize ideas about the topic before you start to write.
Think about the form, audience, topic, and purpose for writing.
Know your position and your reasons for taking that position.
Use polite, convincing and powerful language.

In your child’s binder you will see an At Home Science Project. Children will use a shoe box to create a physical display of their animal and its habitats. Think about what your habitat and animal looks like and the plants that live there. This project is due Monday, February 27th. Please begin with the end in mind when having your child work on this project.
