About Mrs. Ewers

Hi!  My name is Cathy Ewers and I have had the awesome privilege of teaching for 19 years.  I just LOVE teaching and hope to make this year one that your child will remember as special and as a valuable piece of their learning experience.

I was born in Dallas, Texas and lived in Grapevine while growing up with my wonderful parents Richard and Nancy, 2 brothers Rick and John, and my sister Missy.  After graduating from Grapevine High School in 1984 I attended Tarrant County Junior College for two years getting the basics out of the way while working fulltime.  On August 20, 1988 I married the love of my life and best friend, Mike and moved to Bedford, Texas.  I continued my education at the University of North Texas in Denton and graduated in May 1990 with my bachelor’s degree in early childhood.

I began my teaching career at South Euless Elementary in August 1990.  I taught first grade there for 4 ½ years.  Our precious son Michael was born in September 1992.  Mike’s job transfer with Advance Printing brought us to Dunwoody, Georgia in January 1995.  In the fall I accepted a job at Spalding Drive Elementary as a first grade teacher then had the privilege of being a curriculum support teacher for the next 2 ½ years.   This role allowed me to develop and demonstrate leadership skills as I supported all K-5 teachers and assisted them in implementing and organizing effective teaching strategies.

In 2000, we bought a house in Acworth and I accepted a first grade teaching job at Frey. I taught first grade for 7 years and 1 year of third grade.  Then I was given the wonderful opportunity of coming to Cobb County’s newest elementary school Pickett’s Mill.  I am in my 3rd year of teaching third grade and feel very blessed to be a part of the Pickett’s Mill family and community.

I earned my masters in early childhood from Kennesaw State University in July of 2003.  I had the great honor of representing Frey as the 2005-2006 Teacher of the Year and was blessed again by being Pickett’s Mill’s first teacher of the year in 2009-2010!  Pickett’s Mill is by far the BEST place to be and I look forward to an awesome year!
