Support Cobb Schools

Order Your Official "Support Cobb Schools" License Plate Today!  Your School Will Receive $10 For Each Plate Sold!

The Cobb Schools Foundation is excited to announce that we have received approval from the Georgia Department of Revenue and the Department of Motor Vehicles to offer an official "Support Cobb Schools" license plate!  We need to sell at least 1,000 license plates before the plate can be manufactured.  The Foundation will donate $10 for each plate sold by February 3 to your school!  To order your plate, simply print out the attached application, write the name of your school on the top, fill out the form, attach payment and send to the Foundation office.  Applications must be postmarked no later than February 3 for your school to recieve credit.  After this initial period, all applications will go through the Department of Motor Vehicles and we will not be able to track them.  You will receive a copy of your application marked "paid" to be used as your receipt.  You will be notified as soon as the plates are available for pick up at your local DMV.  Simply take your receipt into your local DMV and pick up your new plate! There may be an additional specialty plate tag fee of $35 at time of pick up, however, you will not pay any Ad Valorem taxes.  You will simply renew your tags in the month you always have. Each year you renew your plate, $10 will be donated to the Foundation to help provide grants for teachers, scholarships for graduating seniors, ASP scholarships for kids in-need and so many other programs support by the Foundation.

Please help us get the word out! Pass this on to your friends and family! You don't have to live in Cobb County to have a "Support Cobb Schools" license plate.  Anyone can order this plate!  Our goal is to sell at least 1,000 before February 3, so that we can get approval from the Georgia Legislature to receive $10 for each plate sold.

Help us be the first school district in Georgia to have our very own license plate and "Support Cobb Schools!"  Show your Cobb County Pride!  Grab a pen and send it in!

Mail completed applications along with $25 manufacturing fee no later than February 3 to:

Cobb Schools Foundation
Attn: License Plate
514 Glover Street
Marietta, GA 30060

Thank you for supporting our Cobb schools!

In need of.....

School supplies

Dear Parents,

Please ask your child if they are in need of any school supplies.  I have several kids that don't have any pencils, erasers, and notebook paper.  Thanks for your help in this matter.

Survey about our school---Please complete

A message from the Superintendent:

Cobb County School District is committed to providing quality education for all students.  Each school in the district has developed a school strategic plan to identify specific goals and activities that will address the unique needs of its students.

Feedback from staff, parents and community members is important to the school strategic planning process. Your participation in School Improvement Survey will provide feedback about the quality of educational services and programs in our schools.

Your responses to the survey are anonymous. Results will be provided to the principals later in the school year and will be used, along with other information, to identify priorities for the school.

We invite you to take a few minutes, respond to the survey which can be found at this link:

http://www.cobbk12.org/sisurvey

The survey will be available until February 10, 2012,  and should take about 15 - 20 minutes to complete.  Your opinions are vital to the future of our schools and through participation in this survey you become active in helping your child's school principal identify critical issues to be addressed.

If you have any questions concerning the survey, please contact the principal at your child's school.

Respectfully,

Michael Hinojosa, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Happy New Year

Dear Parents & Students,

I can't thank you enough for all of the wonderful gifts you gave me for Christmas.  What a treat! Gift cards, jewelry, food, coasters, mugs, a scarf, and lots of other goodies were bestowed upon me and I loved them all!  You all certainly know how to spoil a girl and what girl doesn't like to be spoiled every now and then?  Thanks again for your generosity and thoughtfulness.  I was really touched by both.  I hope your holidays were spent celebrating with the people you love most in the world and that you were able to find time to relax and rejuvenate.  Here's hoping that 2012 brings us all good health and happiness.

My best,

Mrs. Miller

Book Levels

Parents,

If you find yourself having a hard time determining if a book is on your child's reading level or not, I have a website that might help you out.  At Pickett's Mill we tend to look at the Lexile level of a book to determine the readability factor.  Unfortunately, the Lexile level can be a bit confusing at times.  Sometimes, it is as clear as mud. :)  I found something that might clear up the confusion for you and your child.  If you go to this website http://www.arbookfind.com/ you can enter any title of a book and it will tell you the level in a way that might make more sense to you. For example, if you type in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone , it is listed at a 5.5 level.  This means that it is on a 5th grade, 5th month level.  Another example is Summer of the Monkeys, a book I read at the beginning of the year. This book is listed as a 4.8 level, meaning 4th grade 8th month.  Hopefully, this will help clear up any confusion you and your child might have.  Happy reading!

Reflection and Mirrors Game

Kids,

Try this out after spending a day learning all about the properties of light! As soon as you finish one maze, another will appear and they should become more difficult. http://www.phy.ntnu.edu.tw/oldjava/optics/mirrorgame_e.html
