Parents,
If you find yourself having a hard time determining if a book is on your child's reading level or not, I have a website that might help you out. At Pickett's Mill we tend to look at the Lexile level of a book to determine the readability factor. Unfortunately, the Lexile level can be a bit confusing at times. Sometimes, it is as clear as mud. :) I found something that might clear up the confusion for you and your child. If you go to this website http://www.arbookfind.com/ you can enter any title of a book and it will tell you the level in a way that might make more sense to you. For example, if you type in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone , it is listed at a 5.5 level. This means that it is on a 5th grade, 5th month level. Another example is Summer of the Monkeys, a book I read at the beginning of the year. This book is listed as a 4.8 level, meaning 4th grade 8th month. Hopefully, this will help clear up any confusion you and your child might have. Happy reading!
