Steps to Respect Climate Survey-Passive Permission

 Dear Parents,

 As part of our ongoing efforts to prevent harassing and bullying behavior at Pickett’s Mill Elementary School, we will be administering the Steps to Respect Climate Survey/Questionnaire that measures perceptions and attitudes in the area of harassing and bullying behavior. The Questionnaire will be given in October to students in grades 3-5.

 This climate survey functions as an anonymous needs assessment by:  

          Providing information critical to planning our bullying prevention strategies;

          Providing a baseline from which to measure progress in reducing harassing/bullying behavior.

          Helps to identify “hot spots” within our school and community

 A copy of the Steps to Respect Climate Questionnaire will be available in the front office for parents to review.   Participation is voluntary, and if you do not want your son or daughter to participate please notify your classroom teacher via email or note prior to the administration date listed above.

Welcome back, Pickett's Mill pirates and parents!  I trust that you have had a wonderful and restful summer and are eager to begin a new year of exciting learning opportunities.  Our guidance and counseling program will continue to "smove" and groove by presenting a standards based curriculum centered around academic, personal/social and career domains. Additionally, we'll conitnue to focus on practicing the 7 Habits to fully develop leadership skills in all of our students.  Together, we can make this the best year yet!

Change in Durham Parent Information meeting for rising 6th graders

Parents,

The Durham Parent Information meeting has been changed from Tuesday, April 27 to Wednesday, May 12.  The meeting will take place at 6:30 in the Durham Theater. Please note this change on your calendars.

Transition information for 5th Grade Parents

Please be sure to look at the transitional information that your students  brought home on Tuesday, April 13.  The same information is also available on the school homepage. 

Important dates coming up for the remainder of the school year:

April 27 - Durham Parent Information Meeting - 6:30 Durham Theater

April 29 - 5th grade field trip to Durham - permission required (due April 23)

May 11, 12 - Healthwise Growth and Development Program - permission required (due May 6)
Materials available for review in Pickett's Mill Media Center on May 4 and May 5 from 8:30-9:30 or
from 12:00-1:00 in the Teacher Resource Room.

May 7 - Durham music registration froms due

Please remember to update your child's immunization records over the summer.

Everyone’s Concern

The Pickett’s Mill Counselors invite you to attend an informative Lunch and Learn on Bullying Prevention by Jeff Dess from Cobb County’s Prevention Intervention Center.  This proactive presentation will initiate a conversation about bullying behavior and review the strategies that Pickett’s Mill is using to address this universally challenging issue.

When:  Thursday, March 18

Time:  11:30 - 12:30

Where:  Pickett’s Mill Elementary in room 214

Bring your own lunch or you may purchase a lunch from the cafeteria ($2.50).  Please join us as we lunch and learn together.

Transition Dates for 5^th Graders

 

February 18 (Thursday): 5^th Grade Assembly at Pickett’s Mill, 1:00-2:00 with Durham administration, counselors, and music teachers

April 1 (Thursday): Pickett’s Mill Shadows come to Durham – Students must submit an essay and be approved. Parental permission and transportation required. (Two per classroom - one boy and one girl)

April 27 (Tuesday): Parent Information Meeting (Durham Theater 6:30)  

 

April 29 (Thursday): Pickett’s Mill students come to tour Durham

(9:30) All music teachers present. Field trip permission required. (leave at 9:15 and return at 11:00)

May 11, 12 (Tuesday, Wednesday): Healthwise at Pickett’s Mill. Parental permission required. Preview materials on May 4, 5.

 

May 7- (Friday) – Deadline for all music registration forms to be turned in from 5^th graders
