The Pickett's Mill Elementary School Counseling Program, in accordance with the Cobb County Counseling Program, is comprehensive in scope, preventative in design and developmental in nature and is designed to prepare students for the challenges of living in a diverse and technological society by using a curriculum based on ASCA Standards that focuses on the academic, personal/social, and career development of students.
Through collaboration with educators, parents and the community, school counselors help to guide students through their educational experience and assist them with plans to ensure post-secondary success.
The guidance and counseling program at Pickett's Mill is delivered through the following direct and indirect services:
Direct Services to Students:
- Individual Counseling (staff, parent or self-referral)
- Small Group Counseling ( Intentional Guidance)
- Classroom Guidance lessons
- Student Advisement
Direct Services to Parents:
- Parent Consultation
- Parent Conferences
- Parent Education
Indirect Services to Students, Parents and Staff:
- Community Resource Referral
- Testing Support
- Responsive Services in times of crisis
Response to Intervention Team Coordination:
The team provides support for teachers, parents and students to help students become more successful learners. The team determines strategies, required assessments, and makes necessary referrals to special education.
