I hope that everyone had a well deserved break last week! Before we left, the students had a wonderful time making the Thanksgiving craft that Lee's mom, Mrs. Archer, brought in. Mr. Archer helped, and Charlie's mom brought in a special snack. We also made Pumpkin Pie in a Cup for our Snazzy Snack and our cookbook we're making for the year. Yum!
We're back for four more weeks before the next break and there is so much to do! We'll be attending the Performing Arts Nutcracker Ballet at the Cobb County Civic Center this Friday from 10:45-1:45. Please have your child dress in their personal best for the field trip.We have to walk from the parking lot so wearing a coat if the day is cool is important. Also, since we do go outside for recess on days when it is not colder than 43 degrees, it is so important for your child to wear a warm coat every day to school. I know that many students ride to school in cars stored in garages, so you may not think about the cold.
We're continuing to review telling time to 5 minutes, subtract, estimate, and check 2 digit numbers, and beginning learning about plane shapes in math. This week we're reading folktale plays in Reader's Theater and reviewing grammar skills such as subject and predicate, verbs, commas, synonyms and antonyms, and locating answers for comprehension in stories. We're also writing a persuasive letter to Santa asking him for a job at the North Pole! We're brainstorming ideas of what might could happen if the elves came down with the flu and Santa needs help. I know we'll have some amazing job applications!
Don't forget that MARKET DAY is DECEMBER 9. We will not have regular homework next week so the students can prepare for this special day! We'll send home a reminder letter, but you can always check the PAGES side of the blog for ideas and information.
2nd grade is also sponsoring help for MUST Ministries this year as our Leadership Day project. The students have done a great job advertising during morning announcements, making posters, and helping to collect the warm winter clothing so desperately needed by families during this time of year. Please send in warm clothing with your child to place in the bins by the bus port.
Checkpoint testing is the week of December 12-16. The students will be tested onitems we have covered so far and some that we have not covered. We'll take this test again in the spring to compare. We'll also be taking the SRI computer reading test in the next few weeks and some of the students will be taking DRA tests. Please help to keep your child focused during this busy time of year- plenty of rest and encouragement to do his/her personal best!
If you need a schedule of events, please scroll down to the previous week's post where I posted our scheduled events until January.
