I hope you had a great weekend! We had a very busy week and worked on many skills. Keep reading at home and sounding out words as you are reading and writing with your child. Please don't forget this Friday is Leadership Day! Have your child wear their dress for success best. It's going to be a GREAT week! Read below to see some of the things we have been up to.
Writing: We are working very hard on using ALL our writing conventions! Students used a graphic organizer to write about their weekend. They wrote details in the organizer and then used the organizer to write complete sentences. We also worked on using transition words: first, next, and last in our writing. We made cinnamon toast to start us off in the right direction.
Reading: We read some fun books this week. We worked finding the main characters in the stories we read, retelling the stories, and locating the problem and conclusion.
I hope your child told you about the animals they read about in The Mitten.
Phonics: We worked with the letters Xx, Yy, and Zz. Students found words that begin with these letters and sorted them in the correct spot.
Letter of the Week: Students practiced writing the uppercase G and lowercase g. They worked on the 2 sounds that G makes.
Social Studies: We studied Martin Luther King, Jr. Students learned that Dr. King had a dream for peace and equality for all people. Your child will know that we celebrate this National holiday because of the work Dr. King did to help all people to be treated fairly and equally.
Math: We worked on many math concepts this week. We wrote numbers to 20 and worked on counting items to make sets to 20. We also worked on identifying number words to 10. Everday we work with ordinal numbers. Last week we enjoyed a snack using ordinal numbers to make our snack. Here are a few photos of our math treat. Thanks parents for helping to make our math time yummy and educational.
