This year we will be spending a lot of time discussing why people create art, whether to be beautiful or useful, to express a feeling or idea. Older students will debate what is art and what is not.

Picasso to Warhol Exhibit at the High Museum of Art

You don't have to travel all the way to New York to see these masterpieces! From October 15, 2011 - April 29, 2012 get to know Picasso, Matisse, Warhol, and other legendary artists who redefined the very idea of art. With more than 100 world-famous works assembled exclusively for the High from the collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Square 1 Art Fundraiser

Orders for the Square 1 fundraiser are due Friday October 21st. The stickers you received with your order form are yours to keep for free!

What's going on in the art room?

We are learning about color and value. Students are using these elements to create art.

Vocabulary: warm colors, cool colors, intensity, hue, tint, shade

Fun at home: What colors do you see in your home? Play "I Spy" using colors. Older students can spy tints and shades.

Not to mention keepsakes where memories never end.

A deadline is required and we must "do our thing"

Just imagine your child's art and the praise that it will bring!

Parents, be on the lookout for your child's artwork and free stickers coming home this week.  Do not feel obligated to order anything, however a portion of the proceeds return to the school to help me buy supplies and tools for the art room.  If you choose to order, please return the order form and a check made payable to Pickett's Mill Elementary.  You may keep your child's artwork and the stickers regardless of whether you order or not.  All items ordered will be shipped to the school before the Thanksgiving holidays, so you can take gifts to family out of town!

Artist of the Month for October

Henri Rousseau is our artist for October. Rousseau was a self-taught Post-Impressionist painter. You would remember him for his vibrant jungle scenes. We will be looking at his landscapes and examining how artists use overlapping, placement and size to show depth in a picture.
