Time for Spring Break!

Spring-break-color

It’s time for SPRING BREAK and I hope you all have a safe and fun time with your family. When we return to school we will begin the week with “Spring Training” rotations that will review for the CRCT. The kids will rotate to different rooms and play fun review games with each third grade teacher. Tuesday we will end the day with an awards ceremony that celebrates the end of spring training and the beginning of the big game (CRCT). On Tuesday, students may wear Braves t-shirts or baseball jerseys  and baseball hats to school if they would like. Please make sure your child returns to school rested and refreshed. Here is the schedule for the CRCT tests:

Wed.14th  – Reading
Thurs.15th  – English Language Arts
Fri.16th  – Math
Mon.19th  – Science
Tues.  20th – Social Studies

Home Reading Sheets will not be required during CRCT week. The children may play First in Math or visit my blog to review skills.

First in Math Program

Today we began exploring the new math challenge at Pickett's Mill Elementary, First in Math. This is a wonderful online math program for our students.  There is a label inside your child’s M.O.O.S.E. binder with their ID and password.  Just type in firstinmath.com and check it out.

What is the First In Math Online® Program?

First In Math is a curriculum supplement that gives students the fundamental skills they need to achieve their academic goals. It delivers fluency in basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, while advancing higher-order thinking skills such as mental math, problem solving, pattern sensing, reasoning and number sense.

The program employs a sequential approach to learning; students start on "easier" material and work through more challenging content. Every module includes positive feedback to boost confidence—students experience the satisfaction of knowing they are gaining speed and accuracy and are becoming ‘good in math’!

Is this program appropriate for all students?
First In Math is appropriate for addition- through algebra-ready students, and each area aligns to NCTM standards. The site offers broad content, with an open-ended, self-pacing design that is ideal for differentiated instruction.

Is it effective?
YES! Several scientific-based studies demonstrate that test scores elevate, and attitudes about math also improve. Use of the program for minutes a day—in the classroom or at home—can increase math success and get kids excited about math!
