Aye Matey, Surrender the Booty!
September 13 - 23, 2011

After conducting an informal survey of Pickett’s Mill Parents, the Pickett’s Mill Elementary School PTA has adopted a new DIRECT DONATION program for fundraising this year. We heard over and over that parents would prefer to make a monetary donation instead of a traditional fundraising program where everyone has to be a salesperson. If our budget needs are met, we will not ask you or your child to sell anything all year; instead the PTA is asking for DIRECT DONATIONs from family and friends to help us meet our fundraising goals.

What does a DIRECT DONATION Fundraiser mean to you?

 It means. . .

  • 100% of the money raised goes directly towards PTA programs (It is typical for product based fundraisers and boosterthons, that only 50% of the dollars raised return to the PTA)
  • Donations are 100% tax deductible
  • Many employers offer to match your contribution, please check with your human resources
  • Our children are not required to be salespeople

All funds raised from PTA activities provide our school with many wonderful enhancements for learning. Last year, PTA spent over $50.00 per student on special programs, activities, resources and grants.

These include. . .

  • Twenty additional laptops for the laptop cart
  • Science Fair & Science Olympiad
  • Funding for the science lab
  • Family Events such as movie nights & bingo nights
  • Subscriptions to First in Math & Brainpop
  • Student directories
  • Reading programs & author visits
  • Teacher appreciation & recognition
  • Teacher grants
  • Community service program
  • Reflections
  • WatchDOGS program

It is critical to continue raising monies for PTA programming at Pickett’s Mill. This is especially true with the budget concerns our schools are facing. Each family is strongly encouraged to participate and any contribution will be graciously accepted. Our goal is to raise $25.00 per student. With the funds received by the Direct Donation program, the PTA expects to keep the programming at the same level as in the past years. A school wide traditional fundraiser will only be considered if budget needs are not met. All checks should be made payable to: Pickett’s Mill PTA.  Your check is your receipt for tax purposes.

The PTA thanks all parents for their involvement and financial support!!

PTA Reflections Arts Contest Coming soon...

Be on the look out for the PTA Reflections flyer coming home soon with your child.  This is a great opportunity for students to "Sharpen the Saw" at home with creativity.  This year's theme is "Diversity Means...".  Visit http://www.georgiapta.org/resources-student-reflections.html for all details, rules and entry forms.  Dates to turn in entries will be Thurs, Oct 13 for grades K - 2nd and Fri, Oct 14 for grades 3rd - 5th from 7:05 to 7:50am in the Media Center.  Your child DOES NOT need to sign up, just check out the rules online (pay close attention to size limits for Visual Arts and Photography please) and show up with project(s) in hand with completed entry form (available online) on the appropriate morning.  If you have any questions, contact Amanda Watkins at e_watkin@bellsouth.net.  Have your child "reflect" on the theme and then think of a way to show their idea artistically.  Good luck, Pirates!

Join the PTA!

Joining the Pickett’s Mill Elementary School PTA is a simple way to help your child and school succeed!  The PTA helps parents, students, school staff, and our community work together to share ideas and supports programs and activities that benefit our children.  The PTA has three main functions: to provide activities, services, and funding for the school.  This has resulted in such programs as our annual Science Fair, Reflections Art Contest, and Hearing and Vision checks.  We also provide programs such as Teacher Appreciation and Red Ribbon week.   We are especially proud of our ability to provide the funding for our Science Lab and laptop computer cart as well as online student resources.  Any and all significant adults in the life of your child(ren) may join the PTA (e.g., parents, grandparents, guardians, aunts, uncles, neighbors, and caretakers.)  Joining the PTA does not obligate you to volunteer; however, we hope you will consider giving some of your time and volunteering for one of the many programs we sponsor.
