Each year the Governor's Office recognizes schools throughout the state for performance and improvements in academic achievements.  This year it was announced that Pickett’s Mill has been awarded the Bronze Star for academic achievements.  We are very proud and honored to have been named among the top performing schools in the District and the State.

Science Fair

WOW, I heard Science Night was AWESOME!  So now it’s time to Be Proactive and Begin With the End in Mind as you start brainstorming some ideas.  We hope ALL our third graders will enter Pickett’s Mill Science Fair.  Start thinking of a topic and a title.  There will be less homework and extra credit for the students creating projects.  Please let Miss Towne know your topic.

When:      February 22nd for K-2

            February 24th for 3-5

Where:        Pickett's Mill Media Center

How: Think of a title for your science project.  All titles must be phrased as a question. Here are a few examples:  Which kind of gum holds its flavor the longest? Is the 5 day weather forecast accurate? The question should then be answered by the experiment.  The internet is a great resource for science fair project ideas!

More information will be coming home in your child's RED PTA folder next Tuesday.  Here are some links with great Science Fair ideas. Beware...these links take you outside of CCSD and may contain advertisements. Science Fair Ideas and More Science Fair Ideas

Leadership Day Lunches

Travel Slide03We are so excited! Leadership Day is going to be held on January 27th, but we have to be proactive and plan ahead.  Because a lot of the “Big Day” activities will be taking place in the cafeteria, all of the children at Pickett’s Mill will be eating in their classrooms. So, we need to know whether your child will be bringing a lunch from home that day or purchasing a school sack lunch.  In our class we talked about this today and the students chose what they were going to do.  Please make a note of this at home so you remember to pack a lunch that day if necessary.

Thank you!
