Testing Info

CogAT testing begins this week!   We will test from 8:00-9:45 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.   IOWA testing will begin Friday then continue until the following Thursday from 8:00-10:00.

Monday, September 3rd: No school/Labor Day Weekend

Tuesday, September 4th: CoGat Testing: Verbal Battery(classification, sentence completion, and analogies);

Wednesday, September 5th: CoGat Testing: Quantitative Battery (Quantitative relations, number series, equations building

Thursday, September 6th: CoGat Testing: Nonverbal Battery (Figure classification, Figure analysis, Figure analogies

Friday, September 7th: ITBS: Reading Vocabulary, Reading Part 1&2

Monday, September 10th: ITBS: Spelling, Capitalization, Punctuation, Usage and Expression

Tuesday, September 11th: ITBS: Math, Math Problem Solving, Estimation, Computation, Data interpretation

Wednesday, September 12th: ITBS: Social Studies, Science

Thursday, September 13th: ITBS: Maps, Diagrams, Reference Matherials

Have your child at school on time for all testing days by 7:50 if possible.  Encourage your child to try their best!

Please make sure your child goes to bed early on the nights before testing and has a healthy breakfast each morning.  Some great choices are protein with carbohydrates like eggs, toast or bagel with peanut butter.  Throw in some yogurt, fruit, milk and/or orange juice and you have a great Brain-Boosting breakfast!  Avoid sugary foods like sweet cereals and chocolate pop tarts. 

Our specials and lunch time remain the same throughout testing.

Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Thank you for coming to Sneak A Peek on Thursday. I enjoyed meeting everyone and am ready to begin school bright and early Monday morning. It is going to be a wonderful year. 

Thank you for all the supplies brought to school on Thursday. Parents, thank you for filling out the necessary paperwork as well. Over the weekend if you could fill out the 2 white clinic cards and the pink information sheet which tells me about your child and return to school Monday it would be greatly appreciated.

If you did not bring supplies in on Thursday please feel free to bring them in on a day that is easiest for you. The extra supplies I asked for are 1 plastic index card box, 1 box of Markers, and 1 white one inch 3 ring binder.

We will have a snack each day around 9am. Please send something healthy that is easy to eat. Your child may also bring a water bottle to school each day. They will be permitted to have a water bottle at their seat as long as it does not become a distraction.

ROBOT Binders will come home on Monday. Your child will be learning to use this valuable communication tool between home and school. You will need to initial their agenda each night.

Last, please send me an email after you have read this Blog. This will help me make a class distribution list very quickly. Once our class distribution list is made I will send out an email kepping you up to date on information.

I can't wait to see all the smiling student faces on Monday morning!

Morning Work

Green or Purple Ink & Morning Work
This week you have seen some papers come home that have been covered in green or purple ink. The students have been given the choice of green or purple pens to review, reflect, and correct papers in class. Mostly this is only for morning work but you may see it on other papers too. To parents the ink is a mess. However, to us it is a great tool. When the students come in everyday we ask them to try to complete AM work individually and this shows us if they are unable to finish and/or which ones they skipped because they didn't know the answer.  After most students have finished we go through each and every problem reviewing, reflecting, and discussing. This means that even though students may not be completely correct the first time around when they try it on their own; they will be hearing it again from us as we correct it. The green or purple pen also helps students receive immediate feedback on how he/she is doing, as for us as well. For example; if everyone is confused or missed a problem it now becomes a teachable moment and we can pull out a review sheet or game on the skill for later in the week. We will write a letter to parents at the top if we see any concerns. Otherwise, please look past the green or purple scribbles and visualize your child engaged in learning.
