Spring Fling is Friday, April 26th and wristbands are now on sale! Deadline for wristband pre-orders is April 19th!

Buy your wristbands in advance for only $10.00 per person. There will be many fun inflatables, carnival games and several Pickett’s Mill staff members in the dunk tank. Cost of wristbands on the day of the event will be $12.

Forms were sent home but if you need an extra one you can pick one up in the front office or request one from your child’s teacher.

We still need volunteers, donations of prizes, Sprite, cakes for cake walk, cupcakes and individually baked items. We are still welcoming volunteers to join the committee, and need both adult and student volunteers. Please watch for this week’s Pirate Compass to sign up to donate or volunteer using the Sign Up Genius.

Thank you for your generous support of our Relay for Life team’s latest event, Eggstravaganza. We raised $2600 during this fundraiser which brings our year’s total to $9, 183. Thank you!

Individual and class picture day is Thursday, April 4th. Flyers have been sent home. Individual pictures will only be taken for students who prepay but all students will be included in the class picture.

Please join us at Lori Bell’s on Tuesday, April 2nd for Pickett’s Mill Spirit night.

Read across america

We will be celebrating Read Across America Day on Friday, March 1st.  We will be having a guest speaker, Dr. Annette Laing  come to speak to all of our students here at the Mill.  We will also be wearing pajamas (appropriate for school).

Dr. Laing has written a historical fiction series about three children who are from Georgia who travel back in time.  She will be talking to our students about what all goes into writing a book.  She is very entertaining and has a lot of information to share.

Students have the opportunity to purchase Dr. Laing’s book which she will then autograph on March 1st when she is here.  A book order form was sent home on Friday, March 1st.  The completed order form should be dropped off in the Media Center.   If you would like to preview the books, they are on display in the media center.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Fletcher:  julie1.fletcher@cobbk12.org.

Book Fair

Book fair
Dear Parents and Families:

We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair!  Our Scholastic Book Fair theme – Story Laboratory: Reading Gives You Super Power! – is part of an incredible energy source for reading that brings to school a wonderful selection of fun, engaging, and affordable books kids want to read. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose their own books will motivate them to read more. And like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the better they’ll get.

Book Fair Dates: Feb 25 & 26   7am-3pm, Feb 27 & 28  7am-3pm, March 1  7am-noon

If you’re all booked up during Book Fair week (or just want to keep shopping), be sure to visit the Book Fair online at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/pickettsmillelementarysch. The online Book Fair is available for an extended time from Feb 22- March 8.

  • Find an expanded selection of books for the whole family—preschool to adults
  • Share your Book Fair with family and friends by sending wish lists or eCards
  • All orders ship to school for FREE and each purchase benefits our school

Sincerely,

Julie Fletcher
