Last week, the students went through several progressions using the individual (short) jump ropes during our PE classes. We did some jumping and landing while the rope was on the ground (in different shapes), we performed several non-jumping (swinging) movements and we began learning some jump rope maneuvers going forward and backward. Many of the little ones learned to actually get over the rope for the first time....excitement at PME!!!
This week, we will continue to learn some individual jump rope skills and the older kids will do some reciprocal teaching (peer teaching) by using jump rope task cards. Sometimes they do a better job teaching each other than when we work in practice style large group situations.
We will also get out the long ropes to jump and land while others turn the rope. We will learn how to jump the snake in the grass, the ocean wave, the pendulum swing, run through, partner jumps and jump rope tag....fun, fun, fun!
Don't forget, this Friday, January 19 will be our 10th Annual Jump Rope for Heart Event.
