Department Grading Procedure
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
For students in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd & 3rd grades we assign grades in 2 separate areas that include:
1) Demonstrates Motor Skills and Movement Patterns –
· Q1 –Personal/General space (finding space, moving to space in games)
· Q2 - Locomotor Movement (running, galloping, skipping, slide stepping, hopping, jumping, leaping)
· Q3 - Manipulative Skills (tossing, throwing, catching, dribbling)
· Q4 - -Manipulative Skills (rolling, striking, kicking)
2) Learning Skills and Behaviors
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Demonstrates Motor Skills and Movement Patterns is given based on results from designated, personal and general space assessment, locomotor movement and P. E. manipulative skills testing performed during our P. E. activity units. These skill tests are based on the Georgia Performance-Based Curriculum Standards and set by the county for each grade level. The students are given a score of 3, 2 or 1 on each skill test based on the criteria set forth on the Cobb County skill/movement rubric scales (See other sheets for rubrics)
Skill Assessment Scale: The students can receive a 3, 2, or 1 based on the following criteria:
3 - The student consistently and independently met the standards and can perform the movement or skill with mastery. The student averaged 2.5 or higher on the 3 point skill/movement tests during this 9 week grading period.
2 - The student is progressing towards meeting the standards and/or can partially perform the movement or skill. The student averaged between 1.5 & 2.4 on the 3 point skill/movement tests during this 9 week grading period
1 - The student has shown limited progress or does not meet the standards. The student averaged below 1.5 points on the skill/movement tests during this 9 week grading period.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
2) The Learning Skills and Behaviors grade is given to each student using the following rubric:
Satisfactory (S): The student displayed appropriate learning skills and behaviors. They consistently were prepared for P. E. class (tennis shoes) and he/she exhibited appropriate effort and behavior during this grading period. They rarely (if ever) needed to be redirected or sent to the time-out area.
Progressing (P): The student displayed appropriate effort and behavior during this 9 week grading period but may have had to be redirected occasionally to get “on task” or to make correct choices. The student may have attended the time-out area occasionally for inappropriate choices. They may have been somewhat inconsistent in preparation (tennis shoes) for class.
Needs improvement (N): The student inconsistently followed the teacher’s directions and had 3 or more write up's in the behavior management book. They may have refused to participate in the selected activities or were infrequently prepared for class. The parents were given notification using a behavior progress note during the 9 week grading period.
