Last week, we got to go through some SUPER Cardio and Muscular Endurance Circuits and then play some FANTASTIC large group games of "McGivor" and "KingPin"! It was a BLAST and the students got to throw, toss, roll, catch and block as they attempted to knock down hula huts and oversize inflatable bowling pins!
This week, we will introduce and work on learning several soccer skills as we set up ball handing, passing, trapping, shooting and dribbling stations in the gym or on the field. Several stations will be set up using cones, nets and walls and the students will move about the gym/field and practice their skills after a demonstration and instructional session. The stations will change each time the students enter for class but we will still "focus" on the above-stated skills. Students will work by themselves, with a partner and in small group scenarios.
The 4th and 5th grade students will be assessed on there ability to dribble and pass a soccer ball later in the unit. Kindergarten to 3rd grade will be assessed on how they move in space during stations, activities and games.
We are working towards playing some short court and full field games of soccer with all age groups. I am hoping the weather will hold out for us and the field will be dry enough in the morning so we can get out there to play some short field, small group micro soccer games.
