It is important to provide visual supports for students with cognitive impairments. The use of symbol supports should not be limited to students who cannot speak or who cannot read. Students with cognitive difficulties all benefit from the additional supports of these symbols. Here is a nice collection of some supports that can be used with snack time activities. Remember that snack is an instructional activity that should encompass communication and vocabulary development within this meaningful (and often motivating) activity.
